Sunlight

Sunday, February 24th, 2008

Walking up the stairs by the grand Hotel Scarborough (now past its former glory as the largest 19th century hotel in Europe) I noticed the pattern painted by the sun in this old black doorway. Please click on the image to see a larger version. Comments welcomed.

A Vase of Flowers

Saturday, January 19th, 2008

PBWA (photography by walking around) has absorbed a lot of my time – just wandering around looking for that something interesting that catches the eye. I had some spare time before a business meeting in Glasgow last year and I decided to engage in a little PBWA. A empty building stood incongruously in the business centre. Someone had placed a vase of flowers in the window.  To see a larger version of this photograph, just click on the image below.

The Big Issue

The first post.

Well, there are two main reasons for the development of this blog. The first is to encourage discussion and debate in respect of my photographs and photography in general – hopefully both you and I will get something out of this process. The second is to provide a news update on what I’m doing and how this website is developing.

So here is the first image, taken in Scarborough, UK in November 2006. As the title of this post suggests, it’s of a Big Issue magazine salesman. It was late in the afternoon, the sun was setting and passing shoppers were ignoring his presence, almost as if he was melting into the pavement. I asked him to pose – arms outstretched with the setting sun behind his head.

Comments welcomed – and yes I did buy a copy of the Big Issue. Just click on the image to see a larger version.
